Becomes Zandra Rhodes University Chancellor, Slams Celebrity ‘Designers’

May 10th, 2010

Zandra Rhodes is going back to school, Last week the pink-haired fashion designer was installed as chancellor of Britain’s the University for the Creative Arts, created through the merger of the Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College, and the Kent Institute of Art & Design.

At her London inauguration ceremony (likely the first in history to include a runway show), Rhodes eschewed the usual black cap and gown for a striking ensemble of her own design.

I wanted to make something that had the wow factor but remained in keeping with the sense of the occasion, she said of her bedazzled fuschia robe and matching hat.

I expect the distinctive color scheme and intricately designed embroidery puts my own mark on what is usually a subdued, black garment.

Barbie to seem like Aussie Babes

May 6th, 2010

Australian models such as Miranda Kerr, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Catherine McNeil have so far enthused leading fashion designers, magazine editors and makeup artists. But that’s not all…now; these catwalk babes have enthused Mattel – the makers of Barbie.

Barbie, the world’s most well-known doll has a new collection of dress. The new Barbie dresses have a characteristically Aussie look, with some of the 12 new mini models inspired by Australian beauties.

The Barbie Basics Collection was commenced at Australian Fashion Week.

12 Barbie dolls have been styled in the little black dress, each featuring faces enthused by Aussie supermodels.

You need to have that little bit something additional even in something like Barbie and this line delivers that, said Robert Best, the principal designer for Barbie.

It is aimed at a fashion consumer and a consumer who’s going to be aware of the kind of girls like Miranda Kerr, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Catherine McNeil who are functioning and dominating the pages of fashion magazines.
