London Catwalk beckons for DMU’s Designers of the upcoming
Top fashion names Karen Millen and Anthony Campbell recently united a panel of judges to select De Montfort University (DMU) students to emerge at Graduate Fashion Week next month.
The higher education occasion is held at Earls Court in London from Sunday 6 to Thursday 10 June. And in a bid to succeed their place on the catwalk, last week, third year Fashion Design students showed their work-in-progress final collections, which ranged from men’s leopard print bomber jackets to hand-painted fabric enthused by dragons and tigers.
The 14 students who were picked by the judges are proclaimed today and will now showcase their collections in front of top industry names at the DMU catwalk on Tuesday 8 June.
On 8 June, these students’ designs will show in the University’s fashion brochures, with the images shot by high profile fashion photographer Fabrice Lachant – his photos frequently appear in magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle.
DMU is moreover hosting a catwalk show at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, London, to showcase Contour and Contour Fashion students’ collections on Tuesday 14 June.

Isabella Blow’s group of McQueens, Treacys and Blahniks are going to auction
The auction of a lifetime is imminent to Christie’s London this September.
Isabella Blow’s clothing collection of over 90, yes 90, Alexander McQueen pieces, 60 Philip Treacy hats, and a variety of Manolo Blahnik shoes is going up for sale.
We can’t even envision spectacle of watching Isabella’s legendary wardrobe auctioned off or the high prices it’s sure to command.
We’d bet that Daphne Guinness will be one of the foremost buyers at this auction, as her love of McQueen and unconventional style make her the ideal inheritor of Isabella’s clothes.
Yet while the auction is a great way to remember the talent and innovation of Isabella and Lee McQueen, we’d much rather have them still creating than be selling off their treasures postmortem.

Kiwi’s fashion design fit for UK’s new first lady
New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead produced a wardrobe for Britain’s new first lady.
Auckland-born Wickstead, 27, designed the navy blue dress worn by Samantha Cameron, wife of newly-elected Prime Minister David Cameron, at their first photo chance at 10 Downing Street.
A previous recipient of a $10,000 Arts Foundation donation, Wickstead told the foundation she was eager to have her clothes in the public eye.
Wickstead moved to Milan as a youngster and went on to study at London’s prestigious Central St Martin’s college.
She had previously worked for fashion designers including Giorgio Armani, Luella, Proenza Schouler and Narciso Rodriquez, and her clothes have emerged in British Vogue and Tatler.
