Italian designer makes gorgeous illuminated shoes from fiber optics

Lighting on footwear is usually limited to those blinking LEDs on little kids’ sneakers. But these illuminated high heels are a dissimilar — and much more chic — animal.

Created by Italian fashion designer Francesca Castagnacci, the heels enclose fiber-optic strands. Each optical fiber is as thin as a human hair, making them completely suitable to be woven into garments — or accessories, as is the case here.

The fibers themselves don’t light up; there requirements to be an LED at either end to make them truly illuminated. Of course, that brings up the entire issue of batteries and whatnot, but that’s no big. In any case, the result is gorgeous. I would love to see the luminous effect if one of the female contestants on Dancing with the Stars wore a pair of these.

Paris couture blooms with colorful gowns

Paris was in full bloom, as Christian Dior designer John Galliano released the city’s fall-winter 2011 haute couture collections with a hothouse of petal-covered gowns and tulip shaped skirts in a riot of colors.

A marvel of technical know-how and unbounded inspiration, Galliano’s garden was a sort of haute couture policy that put on very ostentatious exhibit the raison d’etre behind the collections of wildly luxurious, made-to-measure garments that only a handful of women in the world can afford.

Bouchra Jarrar delivered clean-lined appears in blue, black and ecru for her second couture collection under her signature label.

Where Dior was an explosion, Jarrar was all self-restraint and rigour – but her elegance and precision were no less dressmaking than Dior’s creative catharsis.

Another emerging French designer, Christophe Josse, looked to the long, lean silhouettes of the early 19th century for motivation, delivering a nuanced collection in dusty-hued silks, velvets, astrakhan and feathers. Like at Jarrar, there was nary a sequin in sight.

Lebanon’s Georges Chakra made up for that, pouring kilograms of sparkles onto red-carpet-ready gowns in ruddiness metallic fabrics.

Lohan thumped by waitress on 24th birthday

Lindsay Lohan was punched by a waitress at L.A. club Voyeur untimely Friday morning — her 24th birthday.

“A waitress just hit me – punched me for no cause,” the actress Twittered around 1 a.m. PT.

A witness tells UsMagazine.com that Lohan — who sipped Red Bulls and hid her SCRAM bracelet with thigh-high boots — wasn’t embellished.

“The waitress has a history with Doug Reinhardt, and Lohan was lynching out with him. She was envious, and out of nowhere, the waitress punched her in the face!” the insider tells us. “Doug didn’t desire any part of it and went to the other side of the booth. Lohan ran out.”

The night didn’t get enhanced from there.

Lohan went to a party at the close to Rockstar House — and ran into the waitress again!

“Lohan showed up and cried since the waitress was there as well,” says another source. “Some birthday.”
