Over again, Sunny Fong casts diverse models for his Vawk show
Vawk designer Sunny Fong debuted his spring-summer 2011 collection in one of our preferred venues: the AGO’s grand and airy Walker Court.
The theme, Toro Safari, mixed elements of Spain and Africa, even down to the seating arrangements—Fong had each sitting in concentric circles, as in a bullfighting arena.
African powers were evident in the giant saucer earrings models wore, the embossed crocodile print jackets and the slim safari pants.
The nude and cream color palette was a bit, well; beige, but we similar to the shock of the fuchsia-fringed mini in the middle of the show.
As in seasons past, Fong hired models of different body types and ages, giving spectators a opportunity to see the clothes on women other than glamazon automatons.

Katy Perry, Akon to split runway with VS models
Katy Perry, Akon and model Adriana Lima in a $2 million fantasy bra are among the highlights intended for this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show.
Other models likely on the runway comprise Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie-Huntington Whiteley, Chanel Iman and Candice Swanepoel. Missing from the lineup is Heidi Klum, who just parted with the brand.
The lingerie fashion show has become a holiday tradition of sorts, with many of the catwalkers outfitted in intricate, fanciful wings — and very small else — parading in front of elaborate sets.
The fantasy bra has become a signature, too: This one produced by jeweler Damiani features diamonds, sapphires and topaz.

Japanese fashion icons in London Show
Infrequently seen outfits by some of Japan’s most prominent fashion designers, from Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto to the fashion labels dressing Tokyo’s coolest kids, go on display at a new exhibition Friday.
Meanwhile a red outfit by Hiroaki Ohya was created as a book that folded out into a concertina that was enfolded around the body as a skirt and top.
The exhibition also discovers what the curators called “cool Japan”, or the streetstyle developed by Tokyo’s youth, which comprises Hello Kitty and Astro Boy manga characters on clothes by Ohya and Zucca.
And it seems ahead to the work of a new generation of designers, from Chitose Abe — who trained at Comme des Garcons — and Kazuaki Takashima and Tamae Hirokawa — who worked under Miyake.
The show runs from October 15 to February 6, 2011.
