Models Glossary Terms

• Gabardine
  
  a durable wool or rayon fabric twilled with oblique ribs on the right side. A firm hard-finish tough fabric (as of wool or rayon)
  
  
• Gaiter
  
  a cloth or leather leg wrapper getting from the instep to above the ankle or to mid-calf or knee; an ankle-high shoe with elastic gores in the sides; and overshoe with fabric upper
  
  
• Galligaskins
  
  loose hose or breeches worn out in the 16th and 17th centuries; extremely loose trousers; [Chiefly British] leggings
  
  
• Galosh
  
  a high overshoe worn particularly in snow and slush
  
  
• Garibaldi
  
  a woman's blouse imitative from the red shirt worn by the Italian patriot Garibaldi
  
  
• Garnetting
  
  a mechanical process whereby short cotton fibers and/or other fibers are combed into a detailed orientation and produced into a thin web, which are then covered to create a batting that is generally used as an upholstery material.
  
  
• Garrison cap
  
  a visor-less folding cap worn out as part of a military uniform [Compare service cap]
  
  
• Garter
  
  it is a band worn to hold up a stocking or sock; a band worn to hold up a shirt cover
  
  
• Gauntlet
  
  a glove worn with medieval armor to guard the hand; any of different protective gloves used specially in industry; a dress glove extending over the wrist
  
  
• Gauze
  
  a thin often obvious fabric used primarily for clothing or draperies.
  
  
• Glamour
  
  A definition I have seen in many places is, in essence, a photo that focuses attention on the model rather than the model's surroundings, attire, etc. May include full or partial nudity, but nudity is not always an element of glamour.
  
  
• Go-see
  
  A model's appointment to see a potential client.
