The following terms and definitions are defined with respect to their use and with respect to latest Modeling and model agencies. All the definitions listed here are written by me, unless other credit is specified. Not everyone will agree with my definitions.

  • Tabard

    a small loose-fitting sleeveless or short-sleeved coat or cape, as a tunic worn by a knight over his protective covering and inscribed with his arms; a herald's official cape or coat inscribed with his lord's arms; a woman's sleeveless external garment frequently with side slits

  • Tabby

    it is a plain silk taffeta mainly with moiré finish; also, a plain-woven fabric.

  • Tailcoat

    it is a coat with tails, particularly a man's full-dress coat with two long narrowing skirts at the back.

  • Tallith

    a fringed shawl worn over the head or shoulders by Jewish men mainly throughout morning prayers

  • Tank suit

    it is a one-piece bathing suit with usually wide shoulder straps.

  • Tank top

    a sleeveless collarless shirt with typically wide shoulder straps and no front opening.

  • Tap pants

    it is a loose-fitting woman's undergarment of a style like to shorts formerly worn for tap dancing

  • Tape

    it is a narrow woven fabric.

  • Tapestry

    a grave hand-woven reversible textile used for long curtains, curtains, and upholstery and characterized by difficult pictorial designs.

  • Tarboosh

    it is a red hat related to the fez worn specially by Muslim men

  • Tarlatan

    it is a sheer cotton fabric in open plain interlace typically heavily sized for rigidity.

  • Tatting

    it is a fragile handmade lace formed typically by looping and knotting with a single cotton thread and a small shuttle.

  • Tear Sheet

    The actual page torn from the magazine a model appeared in. Models put their tear sheets in their portfolios. Tearsheets are even better than photos, because it shows the kind of work the model has already done.

  • Test Shoot

    When a model and photographer work together on a new idea or on their portfolios. No fees other than sharing film-and-developing expenses are involved. Model and Photographer Releases should be signed before the session.

  • TFCD

    This is a variation on TFP, where "CD" refers to a CD-ROM of the photos from a photo shoot. See TFP for more info.

  • TFP

    Time For Prints -- an agreement between the model and the photographer to do a photo shoot without paying each other monetarily. The idea is that the model "pays" the photographer with his/her time spent on the shoot, and the photographer "pays" the model with prints. Can also be used to refer to similar arrangements with other non-monetary compensation; for example, this general term can be used in place of the more-specific TFCD.
