The following terms and definitions are defined with respect to their use and with respect to latest Modeling and model agencies. All the definitions listed here are written by me, unless other credit is specified. Not everyone will agree with my definitions.

Mackinaw
It is a type of wool. Normal grade of wool and often has sloppy re-used or remanufactured wool mixed in. Sometimes a cotton warp is used. Very heavily felted and napped on both sides to cover the knit. Much of the fabric is in a plaid or large check design or dazzlingly colored or different colors on each side. Heavy and thick, very similar to melton. Named for MacKinac Island, Michigan. Also called ski material or snow fabric. Miners, lumbermen, hunters, trappers, fishermen, and cowboys use much of the fabric for jackets, mackinaws and coats. Also used for coverlets, shirts, and some heavy sportswear, windbreakers.

Madras
It is an excellent plain-woven shirting and dress material usually of cotton with varied designs in dazzling colors or in white; a light open generally cotton material. Originated in Madras, India and it is a very old cloth. Much of it has a plain colored background with lines, plaid, checks, or designs. Made with combed yarns depending on the quality. Some is mercerized to make it shiny and hard-wearing. Often the dyes are not fast and with each washing, color changes take place.

Martingale
A type of loose half belt or fastening placed on the back of a garment, such as a coat or blazer.

Model Release
A legal document provided by the client/photographer and signed by the model or agent. It gives permission to the photographer to use photographs taken at a particular sitting. If photographs are used without a release, or in a way different from what is stated in the release, then the model can sue for breach of contract.
